Attendance

Regular Attendance is critically important to student success. If you are not here, you are missing out on quality instruction time!

ABSENCES
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home. District policy requires students to be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school, without the use of fever-reducing medication.
If your child will be absent, please notify the school as soon as possible by emailing MOULAttendance@capousd.org. If email is not available, you may call the 24-hour absence line at (949) 234-5987. Parents/guardians have 72 hours to verify an absence. Absences that are not verified within this timeframe will be marked unexcused.
Excused absences include:
  • Illness
  • Doctor or dental appointments
  • Verifiable religious holidays
  • Funeral services for an immediate family member
All other absences are considered unexcused. Regular attendance is important for student learning, so please make every effort to have your child at school unless they are ill. After a student’s third unexcused absence, the district office will send a notification letter to parents/guardians.
For planned absences of any length, please contact our attendance clerk at hebonfadini@capousd.org to request an independent study contract.

TARDIES
Students arriving after 7:45 a.m. are considered tardy. When a student arrives late, they must check in at the front office to receive a tardy slip before going to class.
Excused tardies include illness or doctor appointments. Tardies due to reasons such as traffic, car trouble, or oversleeping are considered unexcused. An unexcused tardy of more than 30 minutes is recorded as a truancy.
After the third truancy or third unexcused absence, parents/guardians will receive a letter regarding their child’s attendance. Please note that if a student is signed out before the end of the school day, a partial unexcused absence of less than 30 minutes will be counted as a tardy, while a partial unexcused absence of more than 30 minutes will be recorded as a truancy.
